Devon Cassidy, an associate lawyer at Cox & Palmer, your CCI-NS President and the President of her Condominium Corporation, will be leading a seminar to help you understand this piece of legislation and how it impacts your condominium. Devon will draw on her experience as a condominium lawyer and a unit owner to provide a review of the Condominium Act overall and highlight those sections of the Act that you might not ever realize you are failing to comply with.

Location: Cedar Room, Future Inn Halifax Hotel & Conference Centre

Enforcing the rules contained in your Declaration is part of the fiduciary duty of a Corporation Board. An Arbitration is a quasi-legal process and should be treated as such. It is different from the Condominium Dispute Resolution Process and it is recommended that a Board contact an experienced professional before beginning an arbitration.  A general overview of the situation that gives rise to the need to pursue an arbitration will be provided.

A panel of arbitration experts will discuss what is required from a Corporation to effectively participate in the arbitration process. Our panel will touch on their own experiences with both the expected and unexpected arbitration cases. Presenters are Niall Burke, Lawyer, Cox and Palmer; Jack Rossi, Senior Property Manager, Tower Property Management Group Ltd.; and  Peter MacKeigan, QC, Chartered Arbitrator/Chartered Mediator, Alternative Dispute Resolution.

CCI-NS Seminar: Changing Times - Adapting your Corporation's Documents to Meet the Changing World
Date: Tuesday, May 8, 2018
Location: Cedar Room, Future Inn Halifax Hotel & Conference Centre,

The world in which your Corporation's foundation documents were created may no longer exist. It is important that your documents reflect the changing time that all condominium communities are finding themselves in. Legislation and society change, and can change quickly. It is important that your condominium community address the changes which have already occurred and be proactive about changes that may be coming.  In this session, Crystal Yeo, a senior property manager with Citigroup Properties will discuss the changes which are occurring and prompting Corporations to explore changing their documents. Crystal will discuss what and how a Corporation should approach their membership in respect of amending documents. Devon Cassidy, a lawyer with Cassidy Nearing Berryman soon to be merging with Cox Palmer, will be discussing the Declaration Amendment process, timelines and costs associated with these changes.  Devon will also touch briefly on enforcement, but recommends the June education seminar on Arbitration.
