New Regulations for Short-term Rentals and Tourist Accommodations

Nova Scotia has changed the regulations for operating short-term accommodations. Effective September 30, all short-term rentals (STR), including tourist accommodations, must be registered under the new Short-term Rentals Registration Act (STRRA). You may be affected. Check it out.

New HRM Rental Registry By-law

HRM has a new By-law that requires all landlords to register their rental units by April 2024. This includes condominium corporations that own a superintendent suite or guest suite that has a PID.

News Flash Deadline 31 Oct 23: Your Condominium may need to file under the Underused Housing Tax

The Underused Housing Tax was intended to catch foreign owners who were letting Canadian residential property lie empty, but the way it is written appears to catch many unintended property owners. This may include any condominium corporation that owns a residential property, such as a superintendent’s or a guest suite.
